How To Tint

Knowing how to tint automobile windows is not a terribly difficult task, but having some experience with basic tools will definitely help considerably. There are many benefits to adding a bit of color to those windows including UV protection and a whole lot of privacy.

But a job well done may actually add to the appeal of the vehicle should the vehicle be sold in the future. Knowing the basics on properly using a measuring tape, ruler, and knife is an essential part of getting the job done right.

What are the basic rules on knowing how to tint an automobile's windows?

1. Gather all of the proper tools. Generally, the tinting material will come in a kit where the instructions are going to be carefully placed in the packaging. However, some of the basic tools may include a knife, razorblade, hobby knife, or sharp pair of scissors, some sort of hot air blowing device, a couple small squeegees, hard card; marker, large cardboard pieces, and a bottle capable o f spraying a mixture of dish detergent and warm water.

2. Carefully measure one of the windows to be covered. Make an outline of the window on a cardboard piece with the marker. Using the cutting device, cut the cardboard into the shape of the window as measured. Now try placing the cardboard in the window. Does it fit snuggly? Make adjustments to the cardboard until the exact shape is found without overlapping allowing for 1/6th of an inch NOT covered on the window. This extra amount is what is not used when the window and door is closed.

3. Wash the window thoroughly. Dry completely. Ensure all residue and debris is completely removed, or it will leave bumps and bubbles in the window film. Use a razorblade and squeegee to ensure a super clean surface.

4. Now peal the auto film backing, and place it carefully on the window. Knowing how to tint takes oodles of patience and a little skill. However, just about anyone can add window film to a vehicle easily an d from the comfort of the home.

5. Use the hard card to flatten the window film to the window. Push the film under the rubber seal of the window. Ensure the film is securely connected at all edges.

6. Take the hot air blower and the hard card. Use the hot air blower close to the auto film and push outward from the middle with the hard card. This is an important part of knowing how to tint auto windows because it removes those amateurish air bubbles left by individuals that do not know any better.

Knowing how to tint auto windows is a great home project for any level of handyman or handywoman. There are a number of ways to get the job completed, but generally speaking, these few easy steps will ensure a basic understanding of using automobile film.

Another consideration is the regulations in the area. Not all laws are equal, but most states do not allow front windows to have an auto film. Additionally, regulations may limit the darkness of the window f ilm.
