This Just In: Hauck WHG 120B Hugger Gas Burner and Industrial Air ...

A burner and blower, such as this Hauck WHG 120B Hugger Gas Burner and Industrial Air Products 40 HP Blower are two pieces of equipment commonly used in soil remediation, among other industries.

In the soil remediation process, the burner is used to heat the material in a rotary dryer. Dryers are offered in both direct and indirect heated models. When a burner is used, making up the gas stream of both air and combustion gases, it is considered direct heat. When the gas stream is heated through a different mean and no combustion gases enter the dryer, it is an indirect heated model. Indirect heated models are useful when product contamination is a concern. After the soil has been thoroughly heated and the contaminants vaporized in the rotary dryer, it passes into a dust collector, which acts as an air pollution control device by collecting and filtering the material and passing the vapors through an oxidizer to break down the toxins before safely admitting the air i nto the atmosphere.

A burner can also accompany an oxidizer to heat it to a temperature high enough to break down the chemical compound of the gas and burn out all of the pollutants in order to ensure that only safe air is admitted into the atmosphere. The burner heats the oxidizer to a high enough temperature to incinerate the pollutants in the oxidizing chamber. This process requires extremely high temperatures, making a burner a necessary component to any oxidizing system.

In soil remediation, a blower can be used to accompany the burner and rotary dryer to blow the hot air through. Blowers are also used at various points in thermal drying. As the first step in the thermal drying process, material is received into a cyclone, which serves as a collection unit. The cyclone transfers the material through the bottom opening into the actual dryer. Ambient air is sucked into the system through a heat exchanger. The heat is generated by some form of electrical heating device, gas burner or steam. The steam and hot air are then sucked into the blower. These vapors are passed through the blower, where they are agitated with extremely high temperatures, and into the drying unit. The drying section is large enough to create the necessary dwell time to ensure that the hot air fully absorbs the humidity, thoroughly drying the ma terial.
